On the evening of April 23, China's State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi held a video conference with the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) of the United States. During the conference, Wang Yi congratulated the CFR on its 100th anniversary.
He made five points on how to view China-US relations from a strategic perspective. First, he said China hoped that the United States would have an objective and rational view of China's development. Second, China hoped that the United States and China would explore a new path of peaceful coexistence and win-win cooperation. Third, China hoped that the United States would respect and accommodate the path and system that China has independently chosen. Fourth, China hoped the US would practice true multilateralism. Fifth, China hoped that the United States would refrain from interfering in China's internal affairs.
The Chinese foreign minister also reiterated China's positions on Taiwan, Xinjiang and Hong Kong. He called on members of the CFR to continue to contribute wisdom for promoting China-US cooperation and safeguarding world peace.
