Johnny Depp Responds to Amber Heard’s Divorce Filing

On Thursday,Johnny Deppconfirmed that he andAmber Heardare divorcing after 15 months of marriage.

“Given the brevity of this marriage and the most recent and tragic loss of his mother, Johnny will not respond to any of the salacious false stories, gossip, misinformation and lies about his personal life,” a representative for Deppsaidon Thursday. “Hopefully the dissolution of this short marriage will be resolved quickly.”

It is unclear which false stories to which the rep is referring, but earlier on Thursday, a source cryptically toldPeople, “Amber did what she had to do to take care of herself.”

Heard reportedly filed for divorce on Monday, just three days after Depp’s beloved mother Betty Sue Palmer died after battling a long illness.

According toTMZ, the couple did not have a prenuptial agreement and Heard requested spousal support. Hours later, TMZ reported that Depp had already responded via his lawyerLaura Wasser, asking to reject Heard's request.

The actors met while filming 2011’sThe Rum Diaryand began dating after Depp split with his partner of 14 years, French singer and actressVanessa Paradis, with whom he has one daughter,Lily-Rose, and one son,Jack.

Depp and Heard married in February 2015 in an intimate ceremony surrounded by friends and family on Depp’s private island in the Bahamas.

Speaking toE!last year, Depp revealed what first drew him to Heard.

“We connect on a lot of levels but the first things that really got me was she's an aficionado of the blues,” the actor revealed. “I would play a song, some old obscure blues song, and she knew what it was.”

“She’s very very literate,” he added. “She’s a voracious reader as I have been, so we connected on that as well and she’s kind of brilliant and beautiful.”

Last summer, Heard toldElle*about the transition from being Depp’s girlfriend to his wife, saying, “Nothing is a dramatic change. We’ve been together for a long time now, so it’s been a fairly organic process . . . I have a fiercely independent spirit.”

“The thing that really scares me is the potential of losing my freedom,” she added. “I never want for my life to lose the ability to transverse the world, with freedom and ease.”

Earlier this week, Depp appeared onJimmy Kimmel Liveinseemingly good spiritsto promote his latest film,Alice Through the Looking Glass, which opens in theaters this Friday.
