Blast kills 7, wounds 17 in west Afghanistan

HERAT, Afghanistan, June 6 (Xinhua) -- Up to seven people have been confirmed dead and 17 others injured after a bomb blast rocked the western Herat city of Afghanistan on Tuesday, provincial police chief Mohammad Ayub Ansari said.

All the victims are civilians including women and children, the official added.

He also noted that explosive device was planted in the cavities of a motorbike and detonated next to the grand mosque in Herat city, 640 km west of Kabul.

Without pointing finger at any group or individual, the official said that investigation has been initiated into the case.

Earlier in the day, a blast shocked Kabul city while an international conference on peace process in Afghanistan with the participation of delegates from 20 countries and international agencies was underway.
