The New South Wales (NSW) state government honored those from diverse cultural backgrounds, according to a press release received on Friday.

The NSW state Premier's Harmony Dinner saw a number of Multicultural Community Medals awarded, to recognize the exceptional, invaluable and often unseen work done by members of the community.

"We are committed to ensuring NSW is a place where everyone from everywhere can feel at home," NSW state Minister for Multiculturalism John Ajaka said.

Among those honored was Sydney's B1 Group Chairperson Anne Bi originally from Beijing, for economic participation.

Bi said she was very excited and honored to win the medal.

"As a Chinese Australian, I will work even harder to prompt multiculturalism in Australia when all of us have benefitted from it," she told Xinhua.

"I also want to provide more contribution to further strengthen the economic ties between Australia and China."

The NSW state Premier's Harmony Dinner is now into its fifth year.
