Israeli forces used tear gas and stun grenades against Palestinians during clashes following Friday prayers in Silwan, just outside the Old City in Israeli-occupied east Jerusalem. Palestinians say they are facing evictions and the area is at risk of being gutted to build an Israeli religious theme park.

At the same time, under the protection of Israeli forces, Israelis gathered at an illegal settlement in Beita, in theIsraeli-occupied West Bank. Palestinian hurled stones in protest of what they say is an illegal land grab.

About 50 Jewish families moved to the area over the last two months, building structures on a hilltop which Palestinian olive farmers say is theirs. The new Israeli PM hashed a deal with the settlers and plans to build a military outpost on the land and will survey the area to determine if the Israeli state can claim it.

International law prohibits building settlements on Palestinian land. Palestinian protesters were joined by members of the ultra-Orthodox Jewish movement Neturei Karta, which is vocal against what they say are injustices against Palestinians by the Israeli state and Zionist movement.
