Currently, China-Japan ties have maintained sound momentum for improvement and development, said Chinese Ambassador to Japan Kong Xuanyou during talks with Japanese Defense Minister Taro Kono, on Tuesday.

China will, as always, promote dialogue between the defense departments of the two countries at all levels to deepen mutual trust and build a constructive China-Japan security relationship, he said.

The two sides will continue to focus on the overall interests of bilateral relations, strengthen communication and coordination, accumulate positive energy for the long-term, sound and stable development of bilateral relations, he added, calling for making joint and due contributions to the unity and cooperation in Asia and the world. Kong also elaborated on China's principles and positions on maritime issues.

Taro Kono said that Japan is ready to continue to strengthen defense exchanges and cooperation with China at all levels, enhance mutual understanding, and properly manage differences.
