**ISLAMABAD, Sept. 25 (APD) ** -- A total of 544,105 Pakistanis were deported from different countries during the period from 2012 to June 2017, according to an official from the country’s federal investigation agency.

The official said that the major reasons behind deportation were overstayed, illegal entry, and illegal immigration and that they were deported by respective governments.

According to the data obtained, the highest number of deportation surfaced in 2015 when 116,185 Pakistanis were deported followed by 111,084 in the year 2016, 87,165 from January to June in 2017, 79,539 in 2013, 78,409 in 2014 and 71,723 in 2012.

Among various reasons, the majority of Pakistanis were deported due to overstaying followed by those who were charged with illegal entry.

The statistics revealed that majority of the Pakistanis were deported from Saudi Arabia, especially after the oil-rich country faced financial crunch due to drop in oil prices in the international market. United Arab Emirates, Turkey, Malaysia, Oman and Britain are among the other destinations from where Pakistani nationals were sent back in a large number.

A big number of people from Pakistan, a country with over 210 population and a struggling economy, attempt to migrate to any rich country for better life, but unluckily several of them are trapped by human smugglers. Such people lose their money and also face legal actions abroad as well as at home.

According to the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development, around eight million Pakistanis are living abroad, with a vast majority residing in the Middle East.

The UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs said that Pakistan has the 6th largest diaspora in the world. Remittances which are sent by overseas Pakistanis has been playing a vital role in the country’s economy.
