Thailand will host the 4th annual Destination Wedding Planners Congress in May 2017, the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) said on Wednesday.

TAT and QNA International, organizer of the event, signed an agreement to recognize that Thailand will host the congress, which is scheduled to be held in Phuket on May 2-4, 2017, and is expected to attract 450 delegates of the wedding planners as well as hotels and tour operators around the world.

"Thailand is on the radar as a coveted destination for weddings and honeymoons. We are extremely excited to get the ball rolling on the 4th edition," said Ackash Jain, director of QNA International.

The first Annual Destination Wedding Planners Congress took place in Greece in 2014, the second in Mauritius in 2015, and the third in Florence, Italy .

According to a survey conducted by QNA International, Thailand was revealed as the top destination of choice in Asia for destination weddings and honeymoons.

The average spend for a wedding is around 5-20 million Baht (142,000-568,000 U.S. dollars) depending on how many guests attend, and the event will certainly help raise the profile of Thailand even further as a preferred wedding destination for couples from around the world, said Yuthasak Supasorn, governor of TAT.
