U.S., partners continue military airstrikes on IS in Syria, Iraq

U.S. and partner-nation military forces have continued to attack Islamic State (IS) forces over the last four days, according to a statement released by the U.S. Defense Department.

Fighter and bomber aircraft have conducted 15 airstrikes in Syria since Dec. 5, the statement said. Separately, U.S. and partner-nation military forces conducted 31 airstrikes over the same period in Iraq, using fighter, bomber, attack, and remotely piloted aircraft.

In Syria, the airstrikes near Kobani destroyed four IS fighting positions, three ISIL-occupied buildings, two IS staging areas, two IS tanks, an electronic warfare garrison, a motorcycle and a mortar, and struck eight tactical IS units and two IS fighting positions.

In Iraq, the airstrikes destroyed six excavators, two bulldozer, two IS bunker, 14 armored vehicles, eight IS-occupied buildings and nine IS storage containers. These airstrikes also suppressed three IS fighting position, five IS tactical units, an IS checkpoint and an IS observation point.

The destruction of IS targets in Syria and Iraq further limits the terrorist group's ability to project terror and conduct operations, the statement said.
