Suzhou River is the mother river of Shanghai, along which are located historical buildings such as General Post Office Building, Sihang Warehouse, and Fuxin Flour Mill, the first factory of the Rong family, a pioneer of national industry. However, due to industrial development and urban expansion, the two sides of the river were once damaged by environmental pollution. After years of comprehensive environmental management, under the implementation of Shanghai government's master plan, 42 kilometers of greenways in the central urban area of Suzhou Creek have been built. Andy Boreham, a New Zealander living in Shanghai, shows his favorite walking path along the Suzhou River, "with new parks, a continuous walking path, rest areas and hardly any cars."
