Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Saturday that a military solution to the Korean Peninsula situation is not acceptable.

Wang made the remarks at the opening ceremony of the Symposium on International Developments and China’s Diplomacy in 2017 held in Chinese capital, Beijing.

Wang said the current situation on the Korean Peninsula has been trapped in a "vicious circle" of showing off strength and confrontation, but future talks can be expected.

He suggested all parties involved seriously consider the China-proposed "double suspension" as the next step to ease tensions and create the conditions and environment necessary to restart a dialogue.

He said China has made more efforts than all other parties and borne the most costs on the issue of the Korean Peninsula. Wang added that all relevant parties should comprehensively and strictly implement the resolutions of the UN Security Council.

A new chapter of Chinese diplomacy

While reviewing this year's achievements, Wang said the year of 2017 opens a new chapter of Chinese diplomacy.

China's "Belt and Road Initiative" has been accepted by a growing number of countries. So far, China has signed cooperation agreements with 80 countries and organizations, conducted institutionalized capacity cooperation with more than 30 countries, and facilitated the construction of 75 overseas economic and trade cooperation zones in 24 countries along the "Belt and Road," Wang said.

Wang stressed China plays a key role in stabilizing relations with major countries in the world, maintaining stability with neighboring countries and promoting regional cooperation with them. This year also witnessed China starting the second decade of BRICS cooperation.
