76 Vietnamese students to compete at ASEAN University Games 17 in Indonesia

Vietnam will send a delegation of 76 students to compete at the 17th ASEAN University Games (AUG 17) in Indonesia from Dec. 9-21, the Ministry of Education and Training (MoET) reported on its website on Monday.

Among 20 sports at the event, Vietnamese students will compete in track and field, Pencak Silat, swimming, table tennis, Karate, and chess.

In addition to competitions, they will join in sideline activities, like cultural exchanges, meetings to share study experience, and sightseeing programs that aim to promote friendship and understanding.

AUG is a biennial sports event organized by the members of the ASEAN University Sports Council with the participation of athletes from the bloc's universities. It was first held in 1981.

The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) currently consists of ten members, including Brunei, Cambodia, Laos, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
