NEW DELHI, June 1: The US, recently announced that India has been dropped out of the list of countries that benefit from its duty-free import scheme.
The decision was made in March, and recently the US said that it was a “done deal”, however it left room for changing its decision.
President Trump has kept a condition for India to return and avail the privileges. If India grants US firmsmore access to its markets it will find its name back in the list.
Earlier India had stressed that it finding no place in the list would not have a significant impact on its relations with the US, even on bilateral trade, as Indiadid not avail much from the particular US regime.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister NarendraModi has appointed the former foreign secretary, S. Jaishankar as a member of his cabinet.
His appointment is being understood as Prime Minister Modi’s resolution to maintain good relations with both the US and China as the former diplomat has expertise on the subjects related to the two countries.
Trump and Modi are expected to meet in September for a summit and the two are also expected to meet on the sidelinesof other meetings.
