Israeli fighter jets struck a Hamas post in the Strip Gaza overnight between Saturday and Sunday after an explosive device detonated near the fence between Israel and the besieged Palestinian enclave.
A military spokesperson said in a statement that the jets targeted a post in central Gaza belonging to Hamas, the Islamist Palestinian organization that runs Gaza.
The strike was a "response to the explosive devices that have been placed adjacent to the security fence," the statement read.
On Saturday, one of the devices exploded, causing no injuries. According to the military, there were no troops near the bombing.
Shortly later, the army said a tank fired artillery at a post belonging to Hamas.
No group assumed responsibility for the bombing, but the military said it holds Hamas "accountable for all occurrences in and from the Gaza Strip."
The spokesperson also warned that the army "will continue to operate by all means at its disposal in order to provide safety to Israeli civilians."
The bombing was the second time an explosive was put near the fence in the past week.
On Thursday, two explosive devices were detonated as a military patrol vehicle drove by the fence. Israel retaliated with artillery at Hamas targets.
