Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra on Monday voiced her belief that the amnesty bill will bring about national reconciliation, calling on all parties to forgive one another.

She made the remark when meeting with members of 24 families, whose relatives were killed during the military crackdowns on the red-shirt protesters in 2010.

The lady prime minister pleaded all sides in the political conflicts to forgive and forget and have compassion toward one another.

"We must lend our hands in helping the country. The first thing that must be done is to forgive one another so that everything could move forward," she was quoted as saying.

"If the government does nothing, the country will slip back to the same circle of violence," she added.

Thousands of people gathered Monday on major streets in the heart of the Thai capital in protest of the disputed amnesty bill, which has recently passed final approval from the House of Representatives.

It is yet to be debated in the Senate later this month.

The bill would grant amnesties to those involved in the sometimes-violent political conflict that has sharply divided the country for almost a decade, including all thoseinvolved in protests since 2006's coup, which ousted former Thai leader Thaksin Shinawatra from power.
