Vehicle explosion in Xinjiang's Urumqi, causing casualties

Explosion caused by vehicle collisions occurred around 8 a.m. Thursday at an open market in Urumqi, capital of northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, witnesses said.

An unknown number of people were injured at the open air morning market near the Renmin Park and were rushed to hospital.

Flames and heavy smoke were seen and the scene was cordoned off.
