China understands and supports Myanmar's efforts to protect its security and will push for talks to solve the crisis in the country's Rakhine State, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Monday during a meeting with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.

Wang expressed sympathy over Rohingya refugees fleeing to Bangladesh and said China will provide humanitarian aid to Bangladesh.

The military response to insurgent attacks in the western region of Myanmar last month sent more than 410,000 Rohingya Muslims fleeing to neighboring Bangladesh.

Wang said China advocates Myanmar and Bangladesh solving the problem through dialogue and consultation, adding that China is willing to take an active role in pushing talks, while the international community should also have a constructive role in easing the situation.

Myanmar State Counselor Aung San Suu Kyi on Tuesday gave her first public address to the nation since attacks by Rohingya Muslim insurgents last month, said that Myanmar stood ready "at any time" to verify the status of the 410,000 Rohingya refugees and condemned any "human rights violations" that may have exacerbated the crisis.

Suu Kyi is not coming to the United Nations General Assembly, though the topic of Rohingya crisis is expected to top this year's agenda.

In the meeting, Guterres told Wang that UN pays high value to China's views on Rakhine State crisis, and also hoped China could use its influences to play an important role to solve the crisis.

Wang also stressed the important role of UN at the current situation in the world. China is willing to work with UN to uphold the purposes and principles of UN charter, to push for multilateralism and together to face the global challenge more effectively

They two also exchanged views on the crisis on the Korean Peninsula.

Wang is in New York for the annual United Nations General Assembly, which lasts from September 12 to 25.
