Damage to fan blade in Boeing 777 engine consistent with metal fatigue

A preliminary assessment showed that damage to a fan blade in a Pratt Whitney engine that failed in Saturday's United Airlines Boeing 777-200 shortly after takeoff from Denveris consistent with metal fatigue, U.S. National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) Chairman Robert Sumwalt said Monday.
