Turkish military suspends conscription, discharge over COVID-19 concerns

Turkish military suspended on Friday the discharge and conscription of soldiers for one month over the concerns of the spread of COVID-19, official Gazette reported.

The decision includes the suspension of the discharge of nearly 66,000 soldiers and the mandatory conscription of 53,000 others.

The decision will be re-examined after one month and extended if necessary.

Turkey has so far recorded 74,193 coronavirus cases and 1,643 deaths, according to the latest data released by the health ministry.
