The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) has accused South Korea of not complying with an agreement made in February to stop slandering each other.

"They have gone (to) the lengths of daring slander ... in gross violation of the agreement," the DPRK's official KCNA news agency reported, citing a statement issued on Tuesday by an unidentified spokesman for the country's delegation in the inter-Korean, high-level talks.

Pyongyang urged Seoul to stop "reckless mudslinging as it is the root cause of all disasters," claiming that Seoul is putting the deal's implementation at a "critical crossroads."

"The South Korean authorities should bear deep in mind that there can be confidence-building and a bright prospect for improving the inter-Korean relations when they respect the other party and honestly implement the agreement," the KCNA reported.

However, South Korea claimed that it was the DPRK that has failed to comply with the agreement to stop the inter-Korean mudslinging.

Pyongyang rejected Seoul's offer last Thursday for talks on holding regular reunions for familes from both sides, saying that "the proper atmosphere has not been created" to discuss such issues.
