North China's Hebei Province, neighboring the capital city of Beijing, will lower its emergency response to the novel coronavirus from the top level to the second level starting April 30, the provincial government said Wednesday.

After the adjustment, local authorities at all levels will continue to promote the prevention and control work on a regular basis and implement various measures to prevent imported COVID-19 cases and avoid the resurgence of infections, said the government.

Based on the COVID-19 situation, Hebei activated the first-level emergency response to the respiratory disease on January 24.

Beijing and Tianjin also announced on the same day to degrade their COVID-19 emergency responses from the top level to the second level from Thursday on.
