The Union of Youth Federations of Cambodia (UYFC) organized a blessing ceremony for nation's King Norodom Sihamoni on Thursday evening ahead of the lunar New Year, which starts next week from April 13 to 16.

Sihamoni, accompanied by Prime Minister Hun Sen, appeared at the ceremony, which was held in front of the Royal Palace with a live broadcast on the state-run National Television of Cambodia (TVK).

The one-hour ceremony featured a series of blessing dances and songs as well as fireworks.

According to a UYFC statement, the ceremony was organized to bless the king with good health, strength, wisdom, and longevity in order to stay as the cold shade for the Cambodian peoples.

"It is also to express our affection, respect, and gratitude to His Majesty the King for his physical and spiritual sacrifices for peace, freedom, and happiness of the Cambodian peoples," the statement said.

The UYFC is led by lawmaker Hun Many, the youngest son of Prime Minister Hun Sen.
