Germany to deport Algeria's illegal asylum seekers

Algerian and German governments have reached an agreement to deport the Algerians who illegally entered Germany a year ago.

The agreement was reached at the end of the short visit to Algeria by German Interior Minister Thomas de Maiziere.

After the talks with his Algerian counterpart Nouredine Bedoui, the German minister said the police services of the two countries will discuss technical details.

He said the deportation will be conducted via commercial flights of both countries' airlines, each flight to carry no more than 30 people.

The German official provided neither the time when the operations will start, nor the number of the people involved.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel said earlier this year that Algeria is a safe country and Algerian nationals will no longer have the right to access asylum program.

Germany has started deporting illegal migrants following hundreds of alleged sexual assaults and robberies on women by the men mainly of Arab and North African origin on New Year's Eve.

Police said nearly half of the assaults were committed by the asylum seekers. Enditem
