Chinese wingsuiter bags world record after hitting moving target

Zhang Shupeng has made history after becoming the first wingsuit flier to hit a moving target during flight.

The 32-year-old achieved the feat in central China's Hunan Province on Thursday afternoon.

The target, which had a diameter of only 50 centimeters, was attached to the roof of a car driven along a dangerous mountain pass consisting of 99 sharp turns in the Tianmen Mountain national forest park.

Zhang, who comes from the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, was an accomplished paraglider before he fell in love with wingsuit flying.

Wingsuit flying is a sport in which participants fly in the air wearing a special jumpsuit which increases the surface area of the human body to generate significant lift.

The annual World Wingsuit Championships held in Tianmen Mountain were first staged in 2012.

The sixth event is scheduled to be held from September 8 to 10, with 16 of the world's top wingsuit fliers expected to attend.

Zhang will be one of the stars at the event and is set to start training soon ahead of the event.
