Massive pile-up leaves 10 injured in western Japan

10 people were injured in a massive pile-up on the Hanwa Expressway in Osaka Prefecture, western Japan, on Sunday, local press reported.

Police said some 20 vehicles were involved in crashes which happened on the Hanwa Expressway near a tunnel in Sennan City in the prefecture at around 7:30 a.m. local time, leaving 10 people aged between 12 to 40 wounded.

The injured were taken to nearby hospitals.

Police said an initial crash between two vehicles caused a chain reaction.

Due to the pile-up, part of the Hanwa Expressway were closed from 8:55 a.m., the report said, adding that police are investigating the accident.
