China has released the numbers from its latest census. Officials say these numbers reveal the population has been growing more slowly over the past decade. Japan's population has been declining since 2011. The proportion of older people in Japan is growing. Twenty-eight percent were over 65 in 2019. The same phenomenon is taking place in South Korea, where 16 percent of the population was over 65 in 2019. What is driving this slowing population growth?
