The number of COVID-19 cases has surpassed 190,000 in the United States, according to a new tally from Johns Hopkins University (JHU) on Wednesday.

As of Wednesday afternoon, the United States, which leads the world in terms of confirmed cases, has reported 190,740 infections, along with 4,127 deaths, showed the tally updated by the university's Center for Systems Science and Engineering.

New York state, the epicenter of the nation's outbreak, has recorded more than 76,000 cases and 1,714 deaths, both the most among U.S. states and territories.

Globally, the number of COVID-19 cases has topped 887,000, with 44,264 deaths, while more than 185,000 people have recovered from the disease, according to the JHU data.
