Confronted with soaring electricity prices, a group of neighbors in one of Rio de Janeiro’sfavelas, or slums, has launched the country’s firstsolarenergy cooperative.

Developed by a nonprofit organization, theprojectis helping residents save money while increasing awareness the about the benefits ofsolarpower.
