The City of London Monday announced that it has elected Alderman Alan Yarrow as its 687th Lord Mayor, the global ambassador for Britain-based financial and business services.

The effective data will start from Nov. 7 , the day before his Lord Mayor's show.

Yarrow is currently Chairman of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment and a Non-executive Director of Turquoise Global Holdings Limited and Fixnetix Limited.

He is also a Trustee of the Police Foundation and an Almoner of Christ's Hospital School, introduced the City of London in a statement.

Previously, he served as Sheriff of the City of London in 2011- 12, and he has also served as an elected Alderman for the Ward of Bridge & Bridge Without and a magistrate since 2007.

Speaking after his election at noon, Alderman Yarrow said: "My principal job as Lord Mayor is to represent and support the 'City' at home and abroad through an extensive program of business visits, meetings and events."

"But my role will be not only to speak for the UK-based financial and business sector but also to it, and to encourage this key sector and all its workers to play their full part in wider society. The City thrives when it is part of society, and society thrives when commerce succeeds," he said.
