Iran's supreme leader appoints new chief of IRGC's Quds Force

Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on Friday appointed Esmail Ghaani as the new commander of the Quds Force of Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), according to official IRNA news agency.

The appointment followed the assassination of Qassem Soleimani in a U.S. air strike on Baghdad airport on Friday morning.

Ghaani had been deputy commander of the IRGC Quds Force since 1997.
