After months of speculation, it's been confirmed that actor Donald Glover will be playing Simba in the highly-anticipated live-action remake ofThe Lion King.

The exciting news was announced by the film's director, Jon Favreau, who also directed the 2016 blockbuster hit,The Jungle Book.

“I just can’t wait to be king. #Simba,” he wrote, alongside a photo of Donald.

Not long after, Favreau announced that James Earl Jones will be reprising his role as Mufasa, 22 years after the original animated film.

Very little is known about the film, except that it will be a "re-imaging" of the 1994 flick.

Not only that, but it seems even the Disney execs are equally excited and have decided to fast-track the film into production ('cause priorities, right?).

The modern remake will be made in a similar vein to theBeauty and the Beastlive action reboot, joining the group of other mega-successful Disney films such asCinderella,The Jungle BookandMaleficent, 're-imagined' for a modern audience.

While it's still early days, with no news yet on which actors are going to take part in the production, we're already keen AF for this movie.
