British low-cost airline easyJet said Monday that it has grounded entire fleet of aircrafts and cancelled all of its flights due to the unprecedented travel restrictions and massive lockdowns amid the COVID-19 outbreak.

The date for restarting commercial flights remains uncertain and "we will continuously evaluate the situation based on regulations and demand, and will update the market when we have a view," easyJet said in an announcement.

The carrier will continue to take actions to remove cost and non-critical expenditure to mitigate the impact of the novel coronavirus, said the company.

To date, easyJet has operated more than 650 rescue flights and repatriated more than 45,000 customers returning to Britain over recent days, said the airline.

"The last of these rescue flights were operated on Sunday March 29. We will continue to work with government bodies to operate additional rescue flights as requested," said the airline.

Meanwhile, Europe's biggest low-cost carrier Ryanair warned earlier that it would ground most of its fleet from March 24. British Airways and Virgin Atlantic have also announced plans to sharply reduce capacity in the coming months.
