An explosion at a subway construction site in Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday, which killed one and injured two foreign workers, was caused by a World War II-era bomb, the police confirmed on Wednesday.

"From initial investigations, an old bomb from the World War II suddenly exploded when construction works were being carried out," Malaysia's state news agency Bernama quoted Kuala Lumpur police chief Amar Singh as saying.

The incident took place at around 5 p.m. local time at the Mass Rapid Transit station in Bandar Malaysia, a former Malaysian air force base. Local media reported that one of the three Bangladeshi workers lost his life after he was sent to the hospital while the other two got their legs maimed.
