Half of world's children facing extreme effects of climate change

Nearly half of the 2.2 billion children in the world live in countries that face extremely high risk from the impacts of climate change, from cyclones to heatwaves.

An index published Friday by UNICEF identifies Afghanistan as one of the 33 extremely high risk states.

The index was launched in partnership with a youth-led climate movement that sees school-age students around the world striking every Friday to demand more be done to address the world’s climate crisis.
