Close contacts between Chinese and Russian leaders have led to "evergreen" friendship and cooperation between the two countries, Chinese President Xi Jinping said Sunday.
Speaking in a meeting with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, Xi said Sino-Russian relations should be a diplomatic priority for both countries despite the changing international situation.
"No matter how the international landscape shifts, we must insist on giving priority to the development of Sino-Russian ties in our diplomatic endeavors, constantly boost political and strategic mutual trust, and keep expanding and deepening comprehensive cooperation," he said.
The meeting is the tenth between Xi and Putin since Xi took office in March 2013, ahead of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders' Meeting slated for Nov. 10-11.
Xi said the duo had maintained close communication this year, and have achieved fruitful results in their top-level design and strategic guidance for Sino-Russian bilateral ties as well as in the cultivation of a lasting friendly and cooperative relationship between the two sides.
He noted that bilateral trade and investment has been on the rise, and major projects such as the east route of Sino-Russia natural gas pipeline have also registered progress.
Meanwhile, pragmatic cooperation between China and Russia is switching toward a new model, in which both countries could jointly carry out research, development, promotion, application and production.
The Chinese president continued to commend booming people-to-people exchanges between the two sides, as well as their closer, more effective coordination and cooperation on international affairs.
"All these demonstrate that our policies on the development of bilateral relations are in line with the will of the people and our times, and represent an irreversible trend," Xi said.
Putin told Xi that he "completely agrees with him" on Russia-China relations.
Both of them have strongly pushed for the comprehensive strategic coordinative partnership, with political dialogue deepened, energy cooperation promoted and trade substantially boosted, he said.
The two countries have worked closely together in international affairs, forcefully protecting the global and regional security and stability, he said.
"I believe our meeting today will inject new impetus into the bilateral ties," he said.
Xi and Putin vowed to enhance energy cooperation during their meeting.
Strengthening energy cooperation is of great significance to safeguarding the two countries' energy security, the two leaders agreed.
The two countries have seen broader and closer feasible cooperation in new situation, according to the two leaders.
They agreed to push forward the construction of the east route gas pipeline as scheduled, launch the west route at an early date, negotiate major oil projects in an earnest manner, and discuss new cooperation projects of nuclear power and hydropower.
The two leaders also agreed to beef up cooperation in high-speed rail, high technology, aerospace and finance sectors.
The two presidents reassured that China and Russia will jointly celebrate the 70th anniversary of the victory of World War II next year, taking this event as an important chance to jointly safeguard the outcome of the victory of WWII and post-WWII international order.
They said relevant departments of the two countries will be asked to well implement the joint celebration plan.
Xi and Putin also agreed to stay in tune with each other to make the APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting a success and exchanged ideas on international and regional issues of common concern.
They witnessed the signing of a series of bilateral cooperation agreements, including an MOU of the China-Russia West Route natural gas pipeline and a framework agreement between China National Petroleum Corporation, China's largest oil and gas producer, and Russia's energy giant Gazprom.
