With the January transfer window slamming shut on Friday, several Premier League clubs have thrashed out last-minute deals to reinforce their squads for the second half of the season.

Manchester United have agreed to a deal worth up to 80 million euros (88 million U.S. dollars) to sign Portuguese international midfielder Bruno Fernandes from Sporting Lisbon.

"Manchester United is delighted to announce it has reached agreement with Sporting Clube de Portugal for the transfer of Bruno Fernandes. The deal is subject to a medical and the agreement of personal terms," United said in a statement.

Fernandes, 25, has been linked with a move to Old Trafford for many months, but United were previously unwilling to meet Sporting's valuation.

Sporting confirmed the deal is worth an initial fee of 55 million euros (60.5 million U.S. dollars) with another 25 million (27.5 million U.S. dollars) euros in performance-related add-ons.

The add-ons include five million related to appearances, five million dependent on United qualifying for the Champions League and 15 million on Fernandes winning individual awards.

"Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon them. Thanks captain," Sporting tweeted alongside of video of some of Fernandes's finest moments for the club.

United are badly in need of midfield reinforcements due to long-term injuries to Paul Pogba and Scott McTominay, while a back injury to Marcus Rashford has also left Ole Gunnar Solskjaer short of options in attack.

Fernandes offers a goal threat, having scored 63 goals in 137 appearances for Sporting since returning to his homeland after spells with Udinese and Sampdoria in Italy.

He was also part of the Portugal side that won the inaugural Nations League in June and has scored twice in 19 international caps.

Meanwhile, Tottenham Hotspur have announced the signing of the winger Steven Bergwijn from PSV Eindhoven on a contract to 2025.

Spurs are paying 30 million euros (33 million U.S. dollars), plus 2 million euros (2.9 million U.S. dollars) in add-ons for the 22-year-old, who has played nine times for the Netherlands.

"It's a dream, I think, for every football player to play in the Premier League: the atmosphere, the stadiums are always full… I want to score goals, give assists, play in the Champions League. Last season I loved seeing [Tottenham] beat Ajax!" said Bergwijn.

Southampton have signed Tottenham right back Kyle Walker-Peters on loan until the end of the season.

Tottenham academy graduate Walker-Peters, 22, has made five appearances across all competitions this season, but only once since Jose Mourinho took charge in the 3-1 loss to Bayern Munich last month.

"He is a talented young player, with good defensive and attacking qualities," Saints manager Ralph Hasenhuettl said in a statement.

"It was clear this month that we could use additional support in the full-back positions, and Kyle was exactly the profile of player I was hoping we could bring in."

Relegation-threatened West Ham United have signed Czech midfielder Tomas Soucek on loan from Slavia Prague with an option on a permanent transfer.

The tall 24-year-old has made 25 senior international appearances.

"I think that he gives us a lot of different qualities, but most importantly he fits the profile of the player we want to bring to the Club," said manager David Moyes. "He is young and hungry but with an established pedigree and proven talent."

"He was captain of Slavia Prague, he's played as a defensive midfielder but he's scored a lot of goals as an attacking midfielder as well."

"At the moment he ticks a lot of boxes. We need to give him the opportunity and time to settle in but we are confident he will prove to be a strong addition to the squad."
