Twin suicide car attacks kill 18 in Iraq’s Baghdad

Eighteen people were killed and some 20 others injured in twin suicide car attacks in Iraq on Friday night, according to Xinhua News Agency citing a local source.

One suicide bomber plunged his explosive-laden car into a police checkpoint and detonated it in the Shiite neighborhood of Abu Dsheer, in southern Baghdad. At the same time, another bomber blew up a car at the entrance of a nearby police station.

Many of the victims are believed to be policemen.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attacks.

ISIL has claimed responsibility for Friday's suicide car bombing on a highway near oilfields in Iraq's southern Basra province, in which several people including civilians and security forces members were killed, according to Reuters.
