Egypt's top constitutional court has suspended all lower court verdicts on a controversial agreement to transfer two Red Sea islands over to Saudi Arabia saying it needed more time to determine who has jurisdiction in the case.

Last year, Egypt's parliament agreed to a new maritime demarcation line that cedes control of Egypt's Tiran and Sanafir islands over to Saudi Arabia, a close Egyptian ally and an important source of international aid.

The Egyptian parliament passed a controversial deal which approves the transfer of two uninhabited Red Sea islands to Saudi Arabia on June 14.
