BANGKOK, Oct.14 (APD) -- Most areas of Bangkok have been flooded on Saturday after hours of thundershowers hit the city at Friday night.
Friday night saw a rainfall of 203 millimeters lasting for six hours, highest in 25 years, said Bangkok Deputy governor Chakkaphan Phiewngam as quoted by local media.
He also mentioned that Bangkok Metropolitan Administration(BMA) could only cope with not more than 60mm of rainfall at a time.
Bangkok governor Aswin Kwanmuang has apologised to the public for failing to handle with the floods resulted from heavy rains.
It's reported that 55 spots of the city have been submerged by knee-deep floodwater, causing traffic chaos. Photos circulated in social media show that many vehicles have been waterlogged, with traffic snarling in main roads around the city.
The Meteorological Department has predicted more rains which will cover 60 to 70 percent of Bangkok in the coming week, as there is a monsoon lying across the lower central of the country.
