New Delhi, Feb. 12 (APD) - The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) won the Delhi assembly elections for the second time, defeating the two major national parties, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), ruling at the center and Indian National Congress.

In the results, announced on Wednesday AAP won 62 seats in the 70-member Delhi assembly, while BJP won eight seats.

The vote percentage of Congress decreased. Arvind Kejriwal will be the chief minister of Delhi, for the third time.

While BJP based its election agenda on Citizenship Amendment Act and the protest at Shaheen Bagh, AAP’s agenda focused on development and education.

According to an Indian Express report, AAP supporters believe that “AAP’s policy choices will stress on improving provisioning of public education and public healthcare, present a new model of governance.

In the last election, AAP had won 54.34 percent votes in 2015, while this year the vote share stood at 53.57 percent. Arvind Kejriwal will take oath as the Delhi Chief Minister on February 16.

Meanwhile, many experts predict that Arvind Kejriwal, could emerge as a national leader, however, it will take time. Currently, AAP is recognized by the Election Commission as a provincial party.
