U.S. designates IRGC-related Iranian network involved in shipping armaments

U.S. Department of the Treasury said on Wednesday that it designated an Iranian shipping network involved in shipping armaments from Iran to Yemen on behalf of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps-Qods Force (IRGC-QF).

The Treasury designated Iranian businessman Abdolhossein Khedri and firms under his control, accusing Khedri of being involved in shipping operations for the IRGC-QF for over ten years, the Treasury said in a statement.

"Today's action against this lethal aid network is yet another example of the U.S. government cutting off all avenues for the delivery of weapons to Houthi rebels," the statement added.

All property and interests in property of the designated individual and entities subject to U.S. jurisdiction must be blocked, and U.S. citizens are generally prohibited from engaging in transactions with them. Persons that engage in certain transactions with the persons designated may themselves be exposed to designation, according to the statement.

U.S. special envoy for Iran Brian Hook said last week that a U.S. warship interdicted a vessel loading "sophisticated weapons" in international waters off the coast of Yemen, alleging those weapons were originated from Iran and destined for Yemen.

Yemen's Houthi rebels on Saturday denied that the boat was bound to the rebel group. "The American allegations were baseless," Mohammed Ali al-Houthi, head of the Houthi rebel group's revolutionary committee, was quoted by the rebel-run al-Masirah TV as saying.
