China's August manufacturing PMI up slightly to 49.4, non-manufacturing sector growth continues

The official purchasing managers' index (PMI) for China's manufacturing sector came in at 49.4 in August, up from 49 in July, data from the National Bureau of Statistics showed Wednesday.

Non-manufacturing industry activities continued to show growth for the third consecutive month, although PMI was down to 52.6 in August from 53.8 in previous month.

A PMI reading above 50 indicates expansion in activities, while a reading below that reflects contraction.
