China, EU hold dialogue on security and defense policy

China and the European Union held their 11th dialogue on security and defense policy via video link on Thursday, the Chinese Defense Ministry said in a statement.

Representatives from the Office for International Military Cooperation of China's Central Military Commission and the Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP) planning and crisis response of the European External Action Service attended the meeting.

The Chinese statement said that security and defense cooperation is an important part of China-EU relations and the two sides have achieved fruitful results in policy dialogue in such areas as UN peacekeeping and military escort missions.

China is willing to work with the EU on expanding cooperation in security and defense, it added.

The EU said the dialogue was frank and pragmatic and the two sides reached consensus on several issues, the statement continued. The EU values its relations with China and is willing to strengthen cooperation in international peacekeeping and maritime security in order to maintain international and regional security, it added.
