China will continue to strengthen communication and coordination with all parties concerned to push forward the political settlement of the Korean Peninsula issue, a Foreign Ministry spokesperson said Wednesday.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Geng Shuang made the remarks at a press briefing when asked to comment on the New Year press conference of Moon Jae-in, President of the Republic of Korea (ROK). Moon said China has played an important role in the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula and the ROK will continue to work with China to resolve relevant issues.

China has always been committed to maintaining peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula, realizing denuclearization on the peninsula, resolving issues through dialogue and consultation, and finally achieving long-term peace and stability on the peninsula, Geng said.

"Over the years, China has made active and unremitting efforts for the political settlement of the Korean Peninsula issue," he noted.

Under the current circumstance, China stands ready to strengthen communication and coordination with all parties concerned, including the ROK, in an effort to continue the current situation of dialogue and detente on the peninsula and push forward the political settlement of the peninsula issue, the spokesperson said.

"We also support the ROK and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea in maintaining contact and dialogue and improving their relations, which serves the common interests of both sides and the region," he added.
