Malaysian health authorities on Friday announced 28 new confirmed cases of COVID-19, bringing the total number of cases to 83.

The Health Ministry said all 28 new cases had been confirmed for further treatment, adding that the authorities are working to confirm and test the close contacts of the cases.

Malaysian authorities said earlier this week that the country had encountered a second wave of cases starting on Feb. 27, many were linked to the 26th cases, a 52-year-old Malaysian national who was confirmed to be infected with COVID-19 on Feb. 29.

The ministry also said on Friday that the 24th case, a Japanese national confirmed in Malaysia, has recovered, bringing the total cases of recovery to 23.
