NEW DELHI, June 20 (APD)— According to a top trade ministry official, the issue of visas for skilled workers could be discussed during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s meeting with US President, Donald Trump next week.

The leaders of the two largest democracies will be meeting for the first time next week.

Referring to Trump’s decision to review high-skilled visa programme that affects India’s $150-billion information technology sector, trade secretary Rita Teaotia said,“H-1B visa issue will be one of the issues on the table during PM’s visit.”

Modi is scheduled to meet Trump in Washington on June 26, the meeting is expected to help the two states in strengthening their ties, and dispelling doubts and anxieties.

The Indian Prime Minister was invited to Washington in January when the two leaders were speaking after Trump’s inauguration ceremony.

“The president and the prime minister have had a number of positive phone conversations, and expect to further that discussion ... whether it’s economic growth and reforms, fighting terrorism, expanding our cooperation as major defence partners,” White House press secretary Sean Spicer said.
