China' Defense Ministry on Thursday responded to recent child abuse scandal in Beijing's RYB Education New World kindergarten, saying it will not allow anyone to hurt a child or defame Chinese army.

"First, children are flowers of our motherland and the future of the country. We do not allow anyone to hurt any child in any way. Second, the army is the pillar of the country and the guardian of the people.

We do not allow anyone to defame the army by any means," said Senior Colonel Wu Qian, spokesperson for the Ministry of National Defense at a regular press conference.

He warned that people should be vigilant to content on the Internet, saying "the Internet is a platform for silent contest. It is a battlefield where there is no smoke."

Preschool children at the kindergarten in Beijing's Chaoyang District were allegedly molested, drugged and pierced by needles.

The Defense Ministry denied in a press release earlier on Friday rumors that appeared online about the involvement of military personnel in the incident.
