ASEAN invests 53 bln USD in Vietnam so far: agency

As of the end of December 2014, eight among 10 members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations ( ASEAN) have cumulatively invested some 53 billion U.S. dollars in 2,507 projects in Vietnam.

The Foreign Investment Agency (FIA) under Vietnam's Ministry of Planning and Investment said on Wednesday that Singapore topped ASEAN countries contributing foreign direct investment (FDI) in Vietnam with 1,353 projects worth 32.7 billion U.S. dollars.

Typical Singapore-invested projects in Vietnam can be seen in Vietnam-Singapore industrial parks, said FIA, noting that these projects help create jobs, boost exports and economic growth in Vietnam.

Malaysia ranked the second among ASEAN investors to Vietnam with 484 projects worth 10 billion U.S. dollars. Thailand sat the third place with 371 projects and 6.7 billion U.S. dollars so far.

ASEAN investors have been present in all 18 economic sectors in Vietnam, with a concentration in industrial manufacturing and processing. The sector has lured 21.7 billion U.S. dollars in 974 projects from ASEAN investors.

Real estate business ranked the second with 93 projects and 16. 5 billion U.S. dollars while ASEAN countries invested 3.1 billion U.S. dollars in 169 projects in area of construction so far cumulatively, said FIA. Enditem
