In April 2023, China's first technology themed ballet "Magnificent Cloud" bloomed on stage! The drama, using ballet art as a medium, showcases the arduous and great journey of the "two bombs and one star" meritorious scientist who worked tirelessly to develop China's first atomic bomb. On June 21st, the drama was brilliantly staged at the Beijing Tianqiao Art Center.
“The Magnificent Clouds "was created by the Suzhou Ballet over a period of three years. As China's first science and technology ballet, inspired by the spirit of "being brave in exploration and innovation", the play creatively transforms the depth of high-tech, the feelings of scientists, and the restoration of major historical events into a unique Artistic language on the stage. With the romantic tenderness of ballet, it interprets the most rigid feelings of home and country, and salutes and inherits the great spirit of "two bombs and one star".
In "the Magnificent Clouds", the dance section uses body language with "technological" content such as particles and nine operations, breaking the conventional impression of classical and modern ballet; At the same time, the affectionate farewell duet, the rain curtain dance that showcases the water and clouds of Jiangnan, all vividly embody the charm of "Jiangnan ballet". In the conflict of drama and the fusion of art, the drama forms a sharp contrast between the love of a small family and the love of a big country, giving the work both a grand and magnificent momentum and a delicate and gentle emotional expression.
In recent years, the Suzhou Ballet has continuously explored "Jiangnan Ballet", launching works closely related to Suzhou such as "My Name is Lilac" and "the Magnificent Clouds". The Suzhou Ballet has continuously extracted elements with local characteristics and integrated them into the creation of dance dramas, perfectly combining the unique tenderness, beauty, and ballet art of Jiangnan. The spirit of "two bombs and one star" has left an immortal spiritual monument for the world. As a funding project of Jiangsu Art Fund and National Art Fund, "Magnificent Cloud" hopes to relay the spiritual torch and transmit spiritual power with the beauty of dance through this domestic tour!
