Two people were arrested in Switzerland on Tuesday in connection with an attack in the Austrian city of Vienna, Swiss police said.

A gunman identified as a convicted jihadist went on a deadly rampage in the center of Vienna on Monday night killing at least four people.

The Zurich cantonal police said the arrest took place in the Swiss city of Winterthur about 10 kilometers from the country's largest city Zurich, and was in coordination with authorities from Austria.

According to a statement by the police, the two are 18-year-old and 24-year-old men and are Swiss citizens.

"The extent to which there was a connection between the two arrested persons and the alleged assassin is currently the subject of ongoing clarifications and investigations which are being carried out by the responsible authorities."

At least 14 people have been arrested in Austria after security forces raided about 18 properties.
